JEF Europe adopts resolutions against roaming

JEF Europe, the European umbrella organisation of the Young European Federalists adopted a resolution against roaming fees at their Federal Committee in Budapest at the beginning of April.

JEF Europe sees roaming charges as a violation of the principles of EU law and calls for more fairness towards the users, opening up markets for all operators across Europe and the establishment of a roaming spot market to bring down wholesale prices.

ZDNet launches petition for fair data roaming

Following up on their recent push against unfair roaming charges, technology news website ZDNet recently started a petition against unfair data roaming charges which gathered several hundred signatures within just a few days. The petition demands more transparency, lower prices and the ability to choose a different provider just for roaming services.

Upcoming event: Regulating Mobile Roaming Charges Conference

On 12th of April, Forum Europe will organise a one-day policy conference on the regulation of roaming charges in Brussels. New survey: customers feel “ripped-off” by data roaming fees

A survey by technology news website ZDNet revealed that customers feel “ripped-off” by data roaming charges. The biggest issues noted were a lack of transparency, extremely high prices for using data roaming and the feeling that high roaming fees are misplaced in a Europe of open borders. In Europe, 77% of those surveyed stated that they think data roaming is too expensive. Most importantly, customers would use their mobile phones more when abroad if prices were lower.
